Culture Undiscovered: Art, Culture, and How to Avoid the Football Field
Hey there, ASU. I’ve been wracking my brain for the best way to introduce myself to you, as I’m notorious for my awful first impressions.

I’m not sure what your weekend plans entail, but I can promise mine will include some form of Golden Globes spectator party. Every award show manages to produce infinite hype and publicity, especially in the fashion industry. From Fashion Police to celeb-obsessed magazines, every starlet will grace a cover somewhere based on her outfit or flawless foundation. So aside from hiring a glam squad and personal stylist, how can we look just as glamorous? There are tons of occasions year round where dressing up is a must, but without a Hollywood budget, it can be tricky. Luckily for us, once you find one knockout outfit, it won’t land you on the “worst dressed list” if you bust it out again. It’s easy to wear the same thing multiple times and even easier to modify it so it will look like a fresh outfit each time. To shake up an old dress, try layering it with either a blazer or jacket. New accessories always change the theme of an outfit. Try a statement necklace, chandelier earrings, a cocktail ring, and/or layering bracelets (just not all at once!). Pairing it with different-style shoes opens an entirely new door. The combinations of accessories are endless. If you’ve held on to your old high school dance dresses, consider shortening the long ones. For the price of a tailoring appointment you instantly have a new cocktail dress. Don’t fret if you don’t have a dress stocked in your closet. There are many more options than just maxing out your credit card. Many retailers have dress departments that offer reasonable prices.
So, I was on Facebook doing the usual—Farmville and random procrastination—intending to do my English homework and English homework only.
Although this year’s winter break was much too short, it’s good to be back and writing for SPM for yet another semester. As usual, you can expect nothing but the craftiest of posts, including many more craft ideas and DIY projects, artist/crafter interviews, and great crafty places to go. If there is something else you would be interested in hearing about, definitely shoot me an e-mail at anytime. Over winter break, I had some time (but let’s be honest, not very much) to do some crafting. I chose the projects that I had been really thinking about and had the energy and commitment to do. One of these projects was a scarf idea I came across on various internet websites. The original crafty source came from a blog called Stamp 48 (although inspired by the We Are Owls collection), which features various DIY craft and home décor types of ideas.
ASU's Knights of Canterlot, a group that gathers to discuss "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic," embodies the fan-base for one of TV's unlikeliest cult hits.
2011 was one of the biggest years of gaming yet. No matter what kind of gamer you are, there was something for you, and now you can use this list for all those Best Buy gift cards you racked up over the holidays.
Before we thought possible, here we are back for another semester. Good thing text book rentals aren’t the only thing emerging this season. Also returning this spring is my blog, Broke’s the New Black, for another semester of weekly fashion tips, interviews and other stylish shenanigans. Over break, I had the privilege of being introduced to a very impressive individual. Neema Mahmoodi, an ASU freshman, has picked up quite the extracurricular activity: starting his own clothing line. Watch out, because this kid is only continuing to gain some serious style points. 1.
It might garner some chuckles, but Project ZooPoo, dreamed up by a duo of ASU students, hopes to turn "brown waste into green gold."
ASU was the first school with a program in sustainability — how are its first alums faring?
Despite Arizona being a hub for the star-gazing population, ASU went 20 years without an astronomy club before the Astro Devils stepped in.
I can’t believe it’s December! This semester has flown by so fast that we’re already at my last post for the year of 2011.
To recollect, I see the sun shining in all parts of the Valley. On all four campuses, Sun Devil nation is represented positively by those who put in the effort—scholars, athletes and combined, student athletes.
Jennifer Lohss is a social work freshman and straight-A student -- getting her degree without a home to sleep in at night.
People have been pirating movies and music since the advent of the Internet. Pirating, for those who are unfamiliar, is the process of downloading a music, movie or video game file for free.
It’s always amazing when there are concert designed around a discount price. My extreme lack of funds increases my disposition towards cheaper shows and even free events have a special place in my heart.
Aaron Johnson ditched a job at Barnes & Noble to travel the country as a poet, eventually settling down in Phoenix.
With the close of the semester also comes the end of this blog. I started writing this as a way to challenge my readers and myself to understand and integrate the cultural opportunities that the Phoenix metropolitan area provides.
As an avid movie and video game fan, I always get giddy when I hear about a famous celebrity voicing a game character before a game’s release.
For those with a competitive spirit looking to satisfy that urge, intramural sports among Arizona State University’s four campuses are there to help.
As college kids, we’re broke because our money went to “textbooks” and the weekend’s festivities, but we sure don’t have any lack of random event T-shirts.
