Mayor Greg Stanton said Grid Bike Share will boost the economy and help enhance residents' health.
In January 2012, ASU and Waste Management Inc. collaborated on a project called “Roadmap to Zero Solid Waste,” which aimed to eliminate waste on all the University’s campuses by 2015.
Police reported the following incidents Sunday: A 26-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Nov. 10 on the 1900 block of East Redfield Road on suspicion of vehicle theft, leaving the scene of a collision, trespassing and disorderly conduct, according to the police report. Officers were first called to the scene in response to reports of a hit-and-run involving a stolen vehicle, police reported. The man had manually started the vehicle and its accompanying trailer, which was parked outside the owner’s residence, according to the report. When the man successfully started the vehicle, the owner ran outside of his residence and began trailing the man in another vehicle, police reported. The man crashed the stolen vehicle into the side of the vehicle the owner was driving, police reported. He got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, according to the report. When officers found the man, he had taken shelter in a trash can in the alleyway behind a residence, police reported. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according the to the report. A 25-year-old Gilbert woman was arrested Nov. 8 on the 4000 block of East Ravenswood Drive on suspicion of burglary and having an outstanding warrant, according to a police report. Officers arrived at the scene after conducting an investigation of a burglary that occurred at a Cold Stone Creamery on Nov. 3, police reported. During a review of surveillance footage, officers concluded the woman entered the business after hours and stole approximately $140 from both a safe and a cash register, according to the report. When the owner of the business reviewed the footage, they identified the woman as a former employee, police reported. Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday: A 31-year-old Gilbert man was arrested Nov. 10 on the 1400 block of North Scottsdale Road on suspicion of forgery, false reporting and two outstanding warrants, according to a police report. Officers were called to the scene at the Red Lion Inn and Suites, after the hotel clerk contacted police in order to verify the man’s driver’s license, police reported. Officers ran an inconclusive records check of the name on the ID, according to the report. The name and signature on license appeared to be inconsistent and several important elements to a valid license were missing, police reported. When asked by officers for a second time, the man continued to identify himself with the false name listed on the license, according to reports. Officers then detained the man, and he finally told officers his true identity, police reported. Officers ran a wants and warrants check on the man and resulted in two outstanding warrants, police reported. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the police report. A 23-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested Nov. 12 at the 100 block of East 5th Street on suspicion of burglary and trafficking in stolen property, according to a police report. The man had broken into a bedroom window and stole several expensive items on Oct. 18, police reported. Neighbors had saw the man and reported the incident to police, providing a physical description and a license plate number, according to the report. The man then took a pair of sunglasses stolen from the house and pawned them using his Arizona Driver’s License, police reported. The exchange at the pawn shop took place approximately three hours after the burglary and was about two miles from the victim’s residence, police reported. On Nov. 12, officers caught the man and told officers he was unaware of the burglary, police reported. The man eventually confessed to being at the pawn shop when officers presented evidence, according to the report. Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday: A Phoenix man was arrested Nov. 1 on the 400 block of South Mill Avenue on suspicion of interfering with a working animal and marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report. Officers were called to the scene in relation to an assault, according to the report. The officer on the scene was attempting to stop the fight when the man struck a police service horse, police reported. During a search, officers found a large amount of marijuana in the pocket of his pants, according to the report. During a later interview with officers, the man stated that the pants belonged to his brother. The man was booked, release pending, at Tempe City Jail, according to the police report.A Tolleson man was arrested Nov. 1 on the 400 block of South Mill Avenue on suspicion of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer, according to a police report.When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man fighting with another unidentified male, police reported.Officers observed the man continually punch random passersby on the street while the unidentified male fled, police reported.The man then proceeded to remove his shirt and walk northbound on South Mill Avenue to instigate fights with other people, according to the report.Officers approached the man and identified themselves, police reported. The man then pushed one of the officers, while the other officer attempted to detain him, according to the report.The man punched the second officer in the face, who then punched the man, police reported. While a third officer took the man to the ground, the man continued to flail his arms and legs to resist detainment, according to the report.The first officer stunned the man and handcuffed him, police reported.The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to a report. Police reported the following incidents Tuesday: A Mesa man was arrested Nov. 2 on the 2300 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of dangerous drug possession, according to a police report. Officers were called with reports of a suspicious person attempting to steal a bicycle, police reported. On-site security had already detained the man after a brief foot pursuit, according to the report. As the man sat on the ground, he was surrounded by two backpacks, which the man told officers wasn't his, police reported. When officers searched the bag they found a small crystal meth rock at the bottom of the bag, according to reports. Officers then questioned on-site security, who confirmed the man was wearing the black and red backpack when stopped by security, police reported. Security also confirmed the man took a pill container from the backpack, according to the report. The man then emptied the contents into his mouth when security attempted to contact him, police reported. The man was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for observation, police reported. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was and booked released pending charges, according to the report. A Mesa man was arrested Nov. 1 at the intersection of University Drive and Mill Avenue on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, according to a police report. The man was observing a large fight when he noticed his female friend being approached by one of the officers, police reported. The man then went over to the officer speaking to his friend and grabbed the officer by the shoulders for a minute before letting go, according to the report. The man did the same thing to another officer in the area, police reported. The man stopped only when an officer struck him, forcing the man to let go of the officer. When officers attempted to detain the man, he began flailing his arms and legs after officers advised him he was under arrest multiple times. Police reported the following incidents on Monday: A 57-year-old Tempe man was arrested Nov 5. in the 20 block of West University Drive on suspicion of failing to truthfully provide his legal name while detained for failing to pay cab fare, according to the police report. Officers were called to the scene by a cab driver alleging that the man had failed to pay his $20 cab fare, police reported. The officer approached the man in question and identified himself as a Tempe police officer, according to the report. The man then advised he would not be paying for his fare, which led to the officers to detain the man, police reported. The man initially identified himself as “Jimmy Mack," according to the report. When officers questioned the man again on his legal identity, the man again gave the same name and added “Go f--- yourself,” police reported. During a search of the man, officers found the man's Arizona identification, which gave officers his real name, police reported. A records check revealed the man was on supervised release from Maricopa County Adult Probation, according to the report. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, police reported. During a routine search at the jail, officers found a bag full of marijuana in his right sock, according to the report. The man was booked and held to see a judge, police reported. A 31-year-old Chandler man was arrested Nov. 4 on the 2100 block of East Warner Road on suspicion of aggravated assault against a health care professional, according to the police report. The man entered a health care facility for treatment and hit a nurse in the face with his fist, according to the report. Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday: A Tempe man was arrested Nov. 3 on the 1200 block of East Vista Del Cerro on suspicion of escaping from a police officer, resisting arrest under passive resistance and interfering with police, according to a police report. Officers arrived on the scene after someone placed a call complaining about two men smoking marijuana in the laundry room of the apartment complex, police reported. When the man spotted the officer, he warned his friend that cops were arriving and both men ran, according to the report. The officer followed the man, identifying himself as a police officer, which led the man to continue running, police reported. The man then struck his head on a low-hanging branch, causing him to fall to the ground, according to the report. The officer took advantage of his position and attempted to handcuff the man, police reported. The man pushed the officer off and continued to resist arrest by refusing to show his hands, according to the report. The officer was able to subdue the man by punching him once on his right cheek and was able to handcuff him, police reported. The officer then turned his attention to the second man at the scene, according to the report. The man then removed his left hand from the handcuffs and ran outside the complex, but the officer was able to once again catch and handcuff the man, police reported. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked, according to the report. A 35-year-old Witch Wells, Arizona, man was arrested Nov. 6 on the 800 block of East Southern Avenue on suspicion of failing to confirm his identification as a sex offender, according to a police report. The man told officers that he knew he needed to carry updated Arizona identification, police reported. Officers reported the man’s last Arizona identification was issued to him in 2006 and that he was released from the Department of Corrections this year, according to the report. However, he has not yet obtained an updated identification card, police reported. Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday: A 22-year-old Sacaton woman was arrested Nov. 6 in the 700 block of North Mill Avenue on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the police report. The woman was the passenger in a vehicle that was stopped outside of the Marquee Theatre in Tempe for displaying suspended plates, police reported. Officers saw the woman rolling something in her hands and trying to hide it, and they smelled marijuana coming from the car, according to the report.The officer then asked the woman to open her hands, to which she complied and displayed a clear, Ziploc baggy containing a usable amount of marijuana, police reported. The officer then removed the woman from the vehicle, which displayed a clear plastic baggy containing methamphetamine on the seat where she was sitting, police reported. The woman was asked to exit the car, revealing a bag of methamphetamine, according to the report.A female officer later removed another sizable amount of methamphetamine from the woman’s bra during a search incident, police reported. The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and released pending charges, according to the report. A 48-year-old Tucson woman was arrested Nov. 7 at 3rd Street and Priest Drive on suspicion of dangerous drugs possession and drug paraphernalia possession, according to the police report. Officers were called to the Extended Stay Hotel in Tempe after a welfare call was conducted, police reported. During the investigation, officers reported that the woman revealed that she was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and released pending charges, according to the police report. Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday: A 35-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Nov. 7 on the 1300 block of West Elliot Road on suspicion of shoplifting, narcotic drug possession, possession of contraband inside a jail facility and being a fugitive from a felony warrant, according to a police report. Employees inside Wal-Mart attempted to detain the man after loss prevention reported he had passed all points of purchase without paying for several movies he had removed from shelves, police reported. After the man fought back, employees searched him and found two folding knives and a plastic wrap with 10 prescription Clonazepam pills inside, according to the report. Once the officer arrived on the scene, the man was read his Miranda rights and confessed to shoplifting in order to pay for from drugs purchased from a man identified as “Buck” from Guadalupe, according to the report. The man stated he had taken the Clonazepam pills from his brother in order to get over his heroin addiction, police said. The officer proceeded to ask the man if he had any other drugs or paraphernalia on him and warned that he would be charged if any were found during the strip search, to which the man assured he did not, police reported. During the strip search at Tempe City Jail, the officer came across heroin wrapped in tin foil inside a plastic wrap in the man’s anus, according to the police report. The man was booked and held in Tempe City Jail to see a judge, according to the report. A 20-year-old Tempe man was arrested in the 2700 block of South Alder Drive on suspicion of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in consumption, according to the police report. Officers were called about a party, and when they arrived they smelled marijuana after approaching the man, police reported. The man informed police that he was under 21, had drank one Guinness Extra Stout and that the marijuana belonged to him, according to the report. The officers administered a preliminary breathalyzer test, and the man blew a 0.094, police reported. The man informed officers that he had taken five shots of whiskey prior to consuming the Guinness, according to the report. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to the report. Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday: A 23-year-old Laveen man was arrested Nov. 8 outside on the 400 block of South Mill Avenue on suspicion of assault, disorderly conduct, third-degree trespassing and having an outstanding warrant, according to a police report. Police reported that the man was acting disorderly inside of School of Rock and was being escorted out by security while his friend tried to subdue his arms to keep him from striking security. While security was ordering the man outside, his friend released the man’s arms, allowing the man to use his closed right hand to strike the security guard on the left side of his face, according to the report. The man was then taken to the ground by security after being escorted out of the bar by several security guards and his friend, police reported. Security then held the man until police arrived on the scene, according to the report. When police arrived, they confirmed the man’s identity with his Arizona ID card, police reported. A records check also revealed a warrant out on the man for a moving traffic offense, according to the report. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, police reported. A 37-year-old Gilbert man was arrested Nov. 8 at 7th Street and Mill Avenue on suspicion of driving on a suspended license, according to the police report. The man was observed driving northbound on Mill Avenue from University Drive in the bike lane for approximately 50 feet, police reported. The man then drove up on the sidewalk with all four tires for approximately 25 feet, before turning eastbound into a vacant lot then westbound onto 7th Street, where he was stopped by police, according to the report. A records check by police revealed the man has a suspended Arizona license and a Maricopa County Superior Court warrant for four counts of Aggravated DUI, according to the report.
