AN OPPPORTUNITY
The title of Omar Barghouti’s lecture “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions and the Legacy of Mandela and King” is ironic. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an avid Zionist and is quoted saying that he saw, “Israel as one of the great outposts of democracy in the world, and a marvelous example of what can be done, how desert land can be transformed into an oasis of brotherhood and democracy.” How can a lecture be legitimate if it taints the name of Dr. King by completely disregarding his beliefs?
